Dear Boomer Friends,

I really love a lot of things about you. I love that you live from the heart more than your parents and that you’ve had such good intentions. But there are probably some things you should know about the next generation before it gets too late.

We are dreamers. As the most invested entrepreneurial generation in a century, we have lots of ideas. We aren’t afraid of risk. We don’t care about retirement. We want to make a difference, but we never can if our dreams are never given a chance. Please take a chance.

We care about design. Design and aesthetic concepts are not optional to us. They are not “fluff” or “extra”; in many ways, they are essence and identity. Why do you think Apple, Inc. is now a third the size of US GDP? Please think outside the box and be open to beauty, not just bottom lines.

We are community-driven. As simultaneously the most connected and disconnected generation, we long for, look for, and create community. Cities which alienate pedestrians, idolize structures, and disconnect us from our community will not survive. Please help bring communities together, not farther apart.

We are a sinking ship. With skyrocketing debt we were encouraged to incur and that job at Starbucks requiring 5 years of experience and a Bachelors, we are falling on our faces. Some of it has been by our own hand, but what we need most is help. Please be open to our ideas and stop analyzing our resumes. Please be willing to mentor us and stop telling us about losing your retirement package. We will likely never see retirement and most of us won’t really care. We just want to make a difference. We just want a chance.

Much Love,

The Millennials

P.S. Do you have an extra $50? We are about to start a multi-million dollar company, and that’s what we need to get started.
